Preparing Our Hearts for the Coming of the Christ Child

THE REAL REASON FOR THE SEASON!
praying1

By Kim Butts

Sometimes, in the rush of the Christmas season, we do not always focus our thoughts, our hearts and our minds on Christ, the very reason we celebrate. As your family begins to look toward the celebration of the birth of Christ (the first advent–coming), take time each day to focus on the One we long to see face to face. Set apart a time of devotion together to anticipate and await with delight the coming of the Christ Child–God’s own Son! Don’t allow Him to get lost in the shuffle of activity–even as you physically prepare to celebrate.

Take time to prepare your heart for His coming . . . what is He calling you to do . . . how is He calling you to live for Him? Read daily Scriptural prayers that will help you to remain focused on Christ, and deepen your celebration together–far beyond physical gifts, delicious food, or decorations. Instead, adorn your hearts with adoration. Take the time to prepare for His coming through Christmas and then to celebrate His Coming through the end of the month as you prepare to step into a new year!

SUNDAY MORNING ADULT BIBLE STUDY

YOU CAN STILL JOIN US

In Making Sense of the Bible, Adam Hamilton Invites us into an honest conversation about the Bible. The book begins with foundational questions such as, how and when was the Bible written? Who decided which books made in into the scriptures and why? How literally must we read it? And, is the Bible ever wrong?

Hamilton addresses many of the misunderstood biblical themes leading readers to a deeper appreciation of the Bible so that we light hear God speak through it and find its words to be life-changing and life-giving.

Window Room, Sundays, 9:30-10:30
Books are available at the class or in the office.
A $12 donation is appreciated.

FOCUS ON GOD!!!

Quotes

“What consumes your mind controls your life.”

“Don’t focus on your adversaries. Focus on God’s possibilities.”

True faith is keeping your eyes on God when the world around you is falling apart.”

“Instead of thinking about how hard the test is, we can instead focus on asking the Lord to enlarge our understanding.” Crystal McDowell

“The more you focus on yourself, the more distracted you will be from the proper path. The more you know Him and commune with Him, the more the Spirit will make you like Him. The more you are like Him, the better you will understand His utter sufficiency for all of life’s difficulties. And that is the only way to know real satisfaction.” John MacArthur

Bell Choir needs more ringers.

INVITE SOMEONE TO CHURCH THIS WEEK!

Pray for guidance. As a practicing Christian, you know that prayer can be an important way to ask for guidance or to request a certain outcome of events. Inviting someone to church should be no exception. As you pray, ask for God’s help identifying the right people, as well as the appropriate time to ask – ideally when that person is most open to worship (which only God would know). You should also pray for inspiration and eloquence, so that you can best serve your faith and your community by offering the best invitation you’re capable of.

  • You can pray independently for guidance and inspiration, or ask pastor Val for her prayers to help you on your mission.

8:45 Communion—Chapel
10:45  Worship in the Sanctuary

Isaiah 35

35 The desert and the parched land will be glad;
    the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.
Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom;
    it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.
The glory of Lebanon will be given to it,
    the splendor of Carmel and Sharon;
they will see the glory of the Lord,
    the splendor of our God.

Strengthen the feeble hands,
    steady the knees that give way;
say to those with fearful hearts,
    “Be strong, do not fear;
your God will come,
    he will come with vengeance;
with divine retribution
    he will come to save you.”

Then will the eyes of the blind be opened
    and the ears of the deaf unstopped…
